In order to prioritize national development, President Akufo-Addo has asked Ghanaians to support candidates who can guarantee peaceful elections.

He claimed that social partners are essential to protecting and preserving the principles of the constitution. Therefore, in the run-up to the elections, employees are expected to uphold their integrity, professionalism, and discipline.

“Politics should not unduly polarize us,” he said while speaking at the May Day celebrations in Accra’s Black Star Square. We must keep in mind that, despite the higher stakes in the last election, we demonstrated a great deal of political maturity in navigating the challenges we face. Elections are about choosing from among the available personalities and policies, and the fact that we have different preferences should not make us enemies. We are brothers and sisters who will continue to live together in the one country that God has given us even after the election.

He points out that at this trying moment, a number of security and governance institutions have shown their value and shown independence and resiliency.

Two by-elections in 2023 in the Kumawu and Assin North Constituencies, as well as another peaceful by-election in Ejisu yesterday, tested our ability to hold a peaceful election ahead of the 2024 electioneering season. These by-elections have indicated that we are ready for a peaceful election in 2024.

“The government is sure that the calm seen in these by-elections will show up in the polls in December,” he says.
