According to a baseline survey by Professor Smart Sarpong, Director of Research and Innovation at Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is currently the front-runner to win the presidency over John Dramani Mahama, with six months to go until the presidential election on December 7.At a news conference on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, Associate Professor of Statistics Professor Sarpong and his colleagues presented their findings. 38.9% of respondents said they chose Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, while 36.1% said they preferred John Dramani Mahama. All other presidential contenders combined gained 3.6%, while Dr. Bawumia led in the Ahafo, Ashanti, Bono, Central, Eastern, North East, Western, and Western North regions.In the 2024 election, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is leading with 38.8% of the vote, while the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is trailing with 34.5%. In the Bono East, Greater Accra, Northern, Oti, Savannah, Upper East, Upper West, and Volta regions, the NDC is the most popular party as of the end of April 2024. According to the report, NPP and NDC are equally popular in the Western North.Furthermore, at the end of April 2024, a sizable portion of prospective party supporters (23.1%) had not chosen a party, indicating that they may hold off until they get interested in one of the parties. The North East has the lowest percentage of undecided supporters (9.8%), while the Western area has the greatest (38%). As of April 30, 2024, the nation’s smaller parties are still unpopular as a whole.
