Following the government’s delivery of GH¢700 million for May, June, and a portion of July 2023, the outstanding arrears remain.
“We are clear in our minds that if these releases and the strategy being put forward progresses, they will clear these arrears,” stated Dr. Ayew Afriyie, the chairman of the Parliamentary Health Committee, who announced this.
“As a committee, we will make amends for the long-standing issue of arrears in the social health finances space,” he stated.

Engagement behind closed doors
After the members of the Health Committee met with officials from four public institutions to examine the government’s failure to provide funding to the NHIA, Dr. Afriyie made this revelation to the media.
Representatives from the Ministry of Finance, the NHIA, the Ministry of Health, and the Controller and Accountant General attended the meeting.
The meeting was originally scheduled to be a public hearing, but before it began, the committee chairman asked the media to excuse the committee so that they may meet with the authorities behind closed doors.
