The legal team for Hajia 4Reall is happy that a U.S. court today decided to put her in jail.
In the case of U.S. v. Mona Montrage, 22 cr 617 (JPO), the judge sentenced the Ghanaian socialite to one year and one day in jail, despite the fact that the lawyers for the socialite had asked for a three-month sentence.
Her defense team is relieved with the sentencing because they were able to obtain a sentence that was much lower than the 37–46 months of incarceration that the government had requested.
Internet fraud accusations were brought against Hajia 4Reall, who pleaded guilty. With a focus on her status as a single mother and the vital role she plays in her child’s life, her legal team made a strong case for discretion.
“We are immensely pleased of ourselves for advocating on behalf of our client and getting this outcome. After the sentencing, her legal team said, “When our client is ready, she will make a statement.”
A romance scam involving Hajia4Reall scammed victims out of $2 million. She was extradited to the United States to face charges after being arrested in the United Kingdom. Because of the extent of the scam and her celebrity profile, the case attracted a lot of attention.
Her defense team highlighted a number of mitigating circumstances throughout the hearing, such as her status as a single mother and the possible harm of being away from her child for an extended period of time.
Her legal team also claimed that the main culprit behind the romance hoax was Loveman Allison, the father of Hajia4Reall’s daughter. He had tricked her into unintentionally laundering money from his illegal activities, they argued.
She remembered meeting Allison in the US in 2015 and falling in love with him, not knowing at the time that he was involved in fraud. She was later introduced to his scams by Allison, who had previously been caught and imprisoned in the United States for computer fraud, according to Hajia4Reall.
