Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, a deputy minister of education, has called for the political environment in Ghana to steer clear of religious stereotypes.
He emphasized that God selects leaders for particular times in His people’s lives rather than displaying partiality.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin South wrote on X platform that he believes Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), will lead Ghana to prosperity if he is elected president in the December 2024 elections.
He claimed that Dr. Bawumia will be a better president for the nation than John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress.
“Today, I went with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to cut sod for Trinity Theological Seminary’s four-story, 200-bed hostel in Accra. His Excellency Dr. Bawumia recognized the huge contribution that Christian institutions have made to Ghana’s growth, and as a result, he envisions further collaborations with faith-based organizations under his administration to further the country’s advancement.
Since God doesn’t care about people, let’s avoid using religious stereotypes in politics. God will bless Ghana during Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidency.
Both the NDC and the NPP have criticized independent presidential candidate Alan Kyerematen’s recent statement calling for the election of a Christian leader.
Over the weekend, Mr. Kyerematen spoke to members of the Church of Pentecost Dr. Wyatt Assembly and declared, “As a predominantly Christian nation, it is our responsibility as Christians to elect a Christian leader, who embodies Christ-like qualities.”
Both major political parties, however, have expressed dissatisfaction of this declaration, with detractors claiming that it goes against the values of religious freedom and inclusiveness in government.
